Quick start

Three steps, about five minutes. The Home screen tracks your progress through the same three steps, so you can always see what's left.

1. Activate the widget on your store

Back-in-Stock ships as a theme app extension, which means nothing is added to your theme until you switch it on. Open Home in the app and click Activate the widget in the theme editor — that link takes you straight to the right place in your theme editor with the block pre-selected.

In the theme editor, toggle the block on and click Save. The widget now appears on product pages, but only when a variant is actually out of stock — in-stock products are unaffected, so your customers see nothing new until it's useful.

2. Customize the widget

Go to the Widget tab. You can change the title, description, icon, colors, input and button styling, with a live preview beside the form so you see every change as you make it. Nothing is published until you save.

Most merchants only need to match their button color and adjust the heading. If you go too far, Reset to defaults at the top right of the preview puts everything back.

3. Receive a test alert

Confirm the loop works end to end before your customers rely on it:

  1. Open a product page for a variant that is out of stock.
  2. Subscribe with your own email address through the widget.
  3. In your Shopify admin, set that variant's inventory above zero.
  4. Check your inbox — the restock email should arrive shortly after.

If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder first, then see the FAQ section on deliverability.
